We are pleased to reveal our upcoming collection, Birds of Paradise and give you an exclusive behind-the-scenes look by Tash. Inspired by our love of warmer days, tropical holidays and summer festival, this soft and delicious collection will leave you feeling mesmerised. This is also our most sustainable collection, all our pieces are made with eco-friendly cotton with silver lurex - ensuring that we remain committed to our 'Walk Lightly' promise.
This is for you, the free-spirited, the adventure seekers and the Bohemian goddess that lives in us.
Hey Tash! Talk us through your inspirations for the new collection.
Our new collection is inspired by one of our earlier collections Folk Tale which is one of our favourite collections. Using small motifs that captured the collection with the bird and the flora and fauna was a big part of the design idea using softer colour palates that really complimented each other and where the perfect spring colours. I wanted a nice clean background with the main focus on all the attention to detail in the print and the beautiful broader detail. This collection print has become one of our favourites for 2020.
What was the creative process like?
This collection was a collection that we were going to release for Summer last year, at the time I was not 100% happy with the colours I had chosen to represent the collection and due to time we stopped and I waited for the right time after going back and looking at colours and what I wanted the collection to mean. Sometimes as much as you plan you can have small hiccups but it is never a set back as with all our collection we do not design and follow trends or colour ways and our collections can be worn anytime you like, so after being able to relook at the collection with a new eyes and the process I just mentioned above, I knew the colour ways had to be changed to a softer palate then then I knew that it was the collection that I had originally deemed about.
Why “Birds of Paradise”?
The name of the collection, I decided to call as it reminded me of tropical holidays and lush backgrounds. Birds of Paradise is actually one of my favourite plants that I own and thought it matched back perfectly with the print and the bird image that we had featured in the print captured in its natural habitat. This collection we shoot at the beautiful tropical grounds at the Botanical Garden Mini Golf in Wanneroo as it had such a beautiful backdrop and captured the beauty of the collection.
What is your favourite go-to style to show off these amazing pieces?
My favourite go to styles is actually a few.
I love all the pieces that I design in the collection but of course I always have my go to pieces that I am very drawn to. This collection my favourites are the Isla Embroidery Dress and Blouse as these are inspired by vintage Mexican dresses I have had for a long time and I wanted to feature this as one of our must have pieces to won this spring /summer with its embroidery detail and attention to the finer details and in two amazing colour ways, I feel that it will be a favourite for everyone.
Secondly the Indica Duster as I love and feature a kimono or duster in every collection. With the stunning embroider pattern and detail featured, it makes it one of our signature styles and a pieces you can treasure for so many years to come.
Lastly I love pieces that are multi-functional, especially when travelling or your busy and it then becomes a great value to the wardrobe. Our Ayanna Maxi Skirt Dress (pictured left) can be worn as a skirt and also as a strapless dress and is so easy and versatile to wear.
Birds of Paradise is set to launch late October. Make sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook for the latest updates on the launch.
